John Matthews is the Founder and President of Gray Cat Enterprises, Inc. a Raleigh, NC-based management consulting company. Gray Cat specializes in strategic project management and consulting for multi-unit operations; interim executive management; and strategic planning.
How do you set yourself apart from other firms in the area?
Mr. Matthews has over 30 years of senior-level executive experience in the retail industry, involving three dynamic multi-unit companies. Mr. Matthews experience includes:

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?: Thriving with my company for 20+ years
How do you define success?
Creating your own path – both professionally and personally. But, not only creating that path, excelling at it in your terms. When I started my company nearly 21 years ago, I have given myself the gift of freedom – time wise and financially – that I had always hoped for.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over your career?
Hard, smart work will get you everything you need in this world. My biggest influences in my life – my father and my high school baseball coach – taught me that the rewards come from having discipline in your life. Self motivation and stick-to-it-ness is absolutely critical in all aspects of life.
